We love to see heroes rise then we love to see them fall...

In watching this film I couldn't help but recognize this ongoing trait in people who find success. We often cheer for the underdog, or love the champion who comes out of "no where" to dominate a sport or industry. We identify with them. But once they have reached this level of success we push them (or they sense that we do) into unrealistic expectations that ultimately destroy them.

The final fight is an indication of that when Sonnen has been winning the strike match to that point. Silva looked weak, tired...and beat. But Sonnen keeps pushing, ultimately to his own demise. Had Sonnen taken the approach Silva took in UFC 112, then maybe he makes it out as champion. Maybe. But as it played out, his own hubris and the pressure from the crowd to "finish him!" made him vulnerable and cost him the win.

Silva, by his actions, proves he is a champion. Even when others are disappointed in his actions and decisions.
