In regards to Carla's true father (SPOILERS)

Does that mean that Glen cheated on his wife? Or was this before he met his wife, and had the two boys?

reply

Glen wasn't her real father, the other brother was.

reply

She said it was glen

reply

Glen wasn't much older than Hank. I gather he was only 19 or 20 when this happened. So yes this would be before he was married and had the two kids.

reply

The movie through Sam's character was quite clear in saying Sam and Glen's brief (it's inferred) relationship occurred well before he was married.🐭

reply

And yet there was relief I suppose that Hank didn't have sex with his own daughter but instead with his niece...?

A tangential point about wordchoice there: I found it interesting how he put it in one of his self-mutterings after his failed liaison with his old flame: "I just laid your daughter"? The "laid" seemed a quaint euphemism. Just from a slang point of view, I don't feel "laying" someone was widely used since the 60s or 70s.

reply

I think he said "made out with your daughter".

reply

There was no sex with Carla. The last scene in the bar they are kissing in the phonebooth, next scene is the brothers driving home buzzed.

Make like that's a nipple: John Bernard Books

reply

But isn't it assume that he and Carly had sex eventhough we had not seen it?

reply

They were necking & basically dry humping in the phone booth (she was wriggling quite a bit), basically, making out. Had the intent been that they'd had sex, we would have seen them sneaking out of the bar to a car, back room, something.

Also, 'getting laid' was used well until the 80s... I was in college then and remember the phrase.

reply

jeez, people don't say 'getting laid' anymore? am I behind the times?

reply

it's nothing new for a mom to say a random name when referring to the father of her child. Sam could have told Hank that it was Glen finally in order to hurt him. but she should have kept her mouth shut.
she seems to still be hurting about him leaving her. and Hank mentions that he was 17 at the time of the accident with his brother.
Glen however, always seems to be Resentful of his brother. I think this is the look he projects along with guilt. his brother "caused" him to be stuck in the small town while his brother left and "made something of his life". and then, maybe Glen did have sex with Hank's girlfriend because they both "hated" Hank at the time.
Hank caused them both pain and then walked away unscathed.
but unbeknownst to the both of them, Hank was hurting inside.
{this pain is evident after everybody leaves the court & Hank is crying.
he still never got his father's approval.}
but I think she was already pregnant with Hank's child and didn't know it.
and if Glen is guilty of trying to get back at his brother, his guilt has eaten away at him cause now he looks like a slob POS.

reply

I am afraid you've confused me. Everyone is talking about Carla being Glen's child, but you wrote, "... but I think she was already pregnant with Hank's child and didn't know it." She wasn't Hank's child.

reply

I also partially support pmsgo. I also think Hank was Carla's father but Sam knowingly lied to Hank so he could easily move on.
PS: Hank and Carla only 'made out', not *beep*
