OT: Is the Venom standalone film doomed to fail?
Venom without acknowledging that Spiderman exist? Sounds like a receipe of utter failure.

I think Venom is a cool enough character that can build a franchise around him and be very successful.
Who knows, if they do it well he could give Spider-man a run for his money in popularity.
I think this is great, Venom has a real chance to make it big in the mainstream.

Support great cinemas.
But having no connection to Spiderman? That's like having Batman without his cowl.
shareYeah that sucks, but the upside is Venom can break out on his own in a way that he wouldn't be able to if he had to be tied to Spider-man.
10 years from now, Venom can be seen as a character in his right like Spider-man, not just a spider-man villain, if they do this right.

I hope Sony and Fox know what they're doing. If not connecting to Spiderman, than I hope the movie can at least acknowledge his existens.
sharehas the venom movie already been green lit
shareWasn't that cancelled? Venom in a stand alone film without Spidey appearing in that universe and wearing the symbiote first will be a complete and utter DISASTER. It will basically just be another Catwoman 2004.
Horror_Metal
It's confirmed in the same universe, but i don't think Spider-Man will show up.
