Actually the Aunt May scene was one of the best drama points in it. It needed that familial drama point with May. Not the parents part. Just re-watched it and what makes it bad is that it's interspersed with so much good, that the bad is so disappointing.
The slo-mo CGI Spidey is bad, absolutely cartoon-like. As said by almost everyone, the "parents" sub-plot was absolutely unnecessary, and the train platform was a HUGE waste of time. Dad's video? It could have been in a letter or on a VHS. What really came from the Dad's research plot, that Harry couldn't use Spidey's blood because it was coded to his personal genes and he happened to sneak into a restricted lab and be bitten? Jamie Foxx was simply Jim Carrey from "Batman Forever". The Max cover-up, was a waste, the cartoonish German scientist, the Oxford subplot. What a mess.
Take all of that out and replace it with a better Peter & Harry relationship and a smoother Goblin origin. I loved all of the actors, Garfield, Stone, Field, DeHaan... okay not Foxx so much. Every time it gets going good they drag it down with another sub-plot point.
