shareExcept most teachers spend summers taking classes and workshops, spend weeks getting ready for a new year, work at school on lesson plans until 6:00 pm, then take work home. Oh yeah, and answer phone calls from parents in the evening as well.

Ummm...we don't get paid for summer and I can't remember the last time I got off by 4:30, let alone 3...And any Teachers leaving at 3 (or 3:30, depending on where you teach) can do so because they front-loaded their day by getting to the school 2 hours early to do their non-class prep then. Sick benefits? Why not...I'm in an important job, having taken an undergraduate and professional degree to do so...why shouldn't I have benefits(which my local government just slashed in half, *beep* you very much, Mr. Premier)...And I'd be on my ass in a second if my job performance was shoddy...
share^what Mike said is 100% on the money. Most people who do not teach and do not take an interest in educating themselves wouldn't know the first thing about what the job entails and about the level of responsibility involved. And ps, I don't know a single teacher who takes summers off or is out the door by 3 unless they started their day at 6 am (a very common occurrence). Work is brought home nightly, on weekends, over holidays- you name it. And with all that, we are passionate, LOVE your kids ( to the point where we regularly put their needs ahead of our own/ our families), live paycheck to paycheck, work 60-80 hrs. a week, pay for our own professional development, pay for much needed supplies out of our own pockets, and still have to put up with the ridiculously ignorant comments of people such as the OP. I'm just thankful at the moment that the OP is not in teaching! Lol.
shareLMAO what a dumbass. How do you think assignments are graded, when teachers spend their time at school in-class? They work at home, after working from 6 AM to 3:30 PM... 8.5 hours. And that's ONLY if they actually get to leave at 3:30, which most schools discourage.
