I taught public school for 9 years and come from a family of educators. No one goes into education to get rich, and few teachers leave because of money. What they do leave for is class sizes that are too large, unsupportive parents and administrators, schools that are in disrepair and many other reasons. Under the best of circumstances, teaching a roomful of kids is stressful, and when all the problems I mentioned come into play, it makes it impossible to do well. Sadly, the teachers who care the most are the ones most likely to burn out.
