Unbearable/Amazing

This was without a doubt my least favourite and in my opinion the worst episode in the Newsroom, a show that continuously tested my patience with each passing episode, while also being can't-look-away car crash kind of entertainment.

Oh Shenandoah, was trying to say many things with a mature sensibility, particularly the scenes with Don and the rape victim, but ultimately, it left a very bad taste in my mouth. A very strange penultimate episode, perhaps the strangest and most off-putting I've ever seen.

And the final scenes, with Charlie, were so outrageously manipulative and sappy, I felt like I was having an absurd dream. But of course, all this was exactly in line with the Newsroom as a show, which was so absurd and entertaining, it's probably worth it.

Opinions on that episode were... divided... to say the least.

Were they? The episode has a 9.4 IMDB rating. It's one of the highest IMDB ratings of the series. 72.9% of the voters gave it a perfect 10. Only 4.3% of the voters rated this episode less than a 7....
I'm curious what "divided" means in your book?

reply

I thought it was brilliant. We must be watching two different shows.

I was referring to this (mainly the press reaction as, to me, opinions expressed here - meaning on this message board - seemed reasonable and well thought out):

It's so interesting gauging the general reaction of this episode! I saw it's score on imdb and absolutely went bug-eyed, I thought it was so blatantly terrible that it could possibly be voted the worst episode, but instead its up there at the top!

So yes, divisive is the best word here. I completely respect that yourself and others enjoyed it, and truthfully I did too, in a different way. I stuck with The Newsroom with a pseudo hate-watch enjoyment, and this episode is the crowning glory of all that for me.

I thought the finale was sweet though.
