Recommendations for Shows Like This

There are so few shows these days that wear their idealism on their sleeves. Most shows today are dark portrayals of humanity about ruthless cynics trying to claw their way to the top and keep their fiefdom by any means necessary or gritty character-studies of tragic anti-heros trying to survive. Shows that feature starry-eyed optimistic professionals who strive toward a better society using their words and their heads seem so few and far between in this cultural landscape that seems to emphasize the attitude of "might equals right."

Outside of obvious choices like other Sorkin shows, Babylon 5, or Star Trek, is there any other shows with a similar optimistic tone? General preferences are toward hour-long Dramas / "dramadies" (e.g. Newsroom, Mad Men, etc.) made within the last 10-15 years (not that I am biased against old shows, but I probably have watched some of the more popular ones). I am generally less inclined toward 1/2 Hour Sitcoms.

Try How I Met Your Mother. I went into mourning after this show went off. HIMYM is smart and funny in a similar way as the Newsroom.

Jesus, I really hope this is a joke.

You should try weeds I only watched it after it finished and thought it was very good.

Justified is smart and verbose but has quite a bit of action. Better Call Saul has less wction but is still smart and has some great wow moments. Supernatural is good if you like horror/mythology and arent offended by different interpretations on religion. Izombie is good for whitty humor.

as you can tell by the other replies (if you know the first thing about the shows suggested), there's none that fit your criteria. Literally none. It's a shame. (Which isn't to say that some of the suggestions arent fun/interesting shows).
