Tony Leung was the only saving grace...

...in this otherwise vapid and wandering mess of a movie. Save for Mr. Leung's ever graceful screen presence, the acting was over the top (as is the style of many Chinese movies), and Ching Wan Lau's portrayal of a womanizing general with a soft heart was unbelievably cliche. The magic scenes felt contrived and unconvincing, and the Western-style ending was unsatisfying. That said, Mr. Leung is such an incredible actor that I'd recommend watching this movie just to watch him bring his character to life.

Right on, Bro...i could not phrase better than that.

Zhou Xun is excellent as well; alas, she isn't given anywhere near enough screen time (perhaps because she would get all of the male audience's attention to the detrement of the rest of the cast, and the film itself).

OTherwise, I quite enjoyed the film, and only in part because Tony Leung is my favorite actor.
