I could be misremembering, but did anyone else notice that everytime The East watched the news it was Fox, this is is a Fox Searchlight film, so there's your answer ... but does anyone else think this would be a bit unlikely given their far Left political position?

shareNo the East is obviously against radicalism, all these radicals in this film, they had no family or home, they end up either be killed or brain damaged or arrested or self-deported. And radical environmentalism is not far left, they are totally different things. This film is a conservative Christian environmentalist film, it is far from a far left film.
shareWell Searchlight belongs to FOX but it's primarily a distribution company, not a production company so they didn't make the movie.

FOX News was never shown in this movie. Fox 5 News (local Fox network affiliate - Simpsons, Family Guy, etc) was shown twice and MSNBC was shown once. Nice try though.
