Soooo

Just saw the trailer, and I think the film is also called The Hollow. Anyway what do you guys think? I mean it def has that blair witch in the woods type of feel. I dont know, but I think the whole first person shaky cam has been done to death. I hope they throw in some new techniques or something fresh.

reply

I hope its not just a bunch of people running around like idiots screaming. It had better show something worth while.

reply

It doesn't. It's duller than paste.

That's exactly what it is and The Blair Witch did it much more effectively and successfully. Forget this.

Remember the magic words: "Please", "Thank you" and "Step off bitch!"

I've been trying to decide whether to watch this one for some time now. On one hand, it has really split reviews - people either seem to love it, or think it's MEH. On the other hand, it's been nominated for a bunch of awards, so I'm starting to doubt the people that dont like it at all.

Think I'm going to take the plunge. I think it'll be my first foray into Britcentric HORROR.

reply

Yeah, it isn't very scary... or more acurately, it is not scary at all. Not sure what "scares" some of these reviewers were talking about, but I sure didn't see any. I'm sure there are some people out there that may end up liking this movie, but it was very forgetful in my opinion. My son & daughter in-law also thought it was forgetful, but their description of this movie isn't the type that's permitted in a public forum.

It is an okay movie if you have nothing to watch, but I definitely will never see it again, as there are literally thousands of low-budget movies, with low ratings, that are superior to this one.

reply

I haven't been "scared" from a movie since I was 5 years old, but I liked it.

I probably won't remember it in a week, but it was decent enough.

it blows pigs

reply

I liked it a lot, it gave me q creepy unsettling feeling. the concept was different. hardly any shaking going on.

Just saw this last night. It definitely did remind me of the Blair Witch, and I liked it more than I disliked it. But I was disappointed that there was not really an explanation of this "evil"; nothing to give us reason to be afraid of this thing other than a girl freaking out about it. Yeah there have been suicides at the tree, but why? No theories were given. Unless I missed something. The Blair Witch had some legend behind it. This one, not so much.

The director hasn't got one original thought in his head, can't even recycle 13 year old cliches properly. Really should look for another career, filmmaking isn't it. The only good thing about Hollow is a shirtless/naked Matt Stokoe. Everything else is worthless.

reply

It is, unfortunately, yet another film that is without any real narrative merit - some of the acting is actually pretty good for this type of movie but apart from that it is dull and derivative and a real waste.

If the director had gone for a proper scripted narrative and ditched the whole 'found footage' rubbish then the movie would have had some amazing and atmospheric locations and some good actors with which to build a pretty strong movie.

The found footage style of film making isn't really played out - there are things that can be done that might continue to make it a valid form of film making, but the whole idea of a small group of people going away for a weekend and one of them just happens to be filming absolutely everything (in this film there is no real context given as to why everything is being filmed apart from a throwaway comment from one of the characters at the beginning) - well, as a thematic structure it pretty much hobbles the film with a narrative and countless instances of other characters saying 'Just turn the camera off mate). It turns the narrative into a choppy mess and whether the screenwriter is just a little weak or they were spending too much time writing around the gimmick is unclear. There seems to be this idea that found footage is easy to do but the many, many poor examples shows that this is not the case - it's probably harder to skillfully do than a straightforward film.

It has the basis of a good, traditional ghost story but is way too concerned with character but without applying logic to their actions and decisions.

Slight spoilers ahead

The protracted ending in the car is duller than anything I have ever seen in a movie, as an idea it is okay but any potential is lost by the setting and filming.

The worst thing is the tree - which should almost be a character becomes nothing more than a tree and not a 'malevolent presence'.

A potentially good idea wasted on an amateurish mess.

Do you have a licence for this minkey

You say you liked it, yet give all these real reason why you didnt like it. Pretty important things too, like no story, no reason for what is happening, no effects, nothing. Yet you liked it!!!! Basically you just stated the movie sucked, but you liked it. HUH?

reply

What, They explained it like 4 times in the movie. first off, an evil
spirit needs no explanation, it is *beep* evil, end of story.
so now there is this evil spirit that haunts that old place they were
walking through. all of this was explained, anybody who goes in there
gets twisted up, thus the crazy Charlie night. so now we have the WHOLE
background story of the monk and the... you know what, I am done with this!!!

you people need to pause the movies when you go take a piss, don't watch
if you are *beep* texting or some other crap, and pay attention.
this was like the most spoon fed movie I have watched all month, and
I have seen about 100 horror movies in the last month or so.

damn it people, come on!!

I know right? Or they just don't want to do any thinking. Also, the atmosphere matters a lot when doing a horror film. Watching it in the dark is better, and with no friends joking or talking throughout the film because it just kills the mood. There weren't any unanswered questions. And even if there was, it doesn't make it a bad film. I think people just want the movie to do all the thinking for them, but this movie didn't leave much unanswered. The only possible explanation as to why they didn't get it is because they were texting or busy doing other things while the movies was on, or they didn't pause it when they stepped out.

I'm always on imdb searching through these kind of movies and wanting to see past all the depressingly low ratings they get. Everyone always asks why I insist on watching these over and over but I just enjoy the horror genre. I want something fresh like what paranormal activity achieved after almost 20 years of non existent proper horror since Halloween or freddy Kruger.

Bare in mind I DEFINITELY did not expect this to come from this movie or anything but I read the low down on here and saw it was on Netflix a while ago and also it was just releasd in the video store. Decided to watch it on my own, which I would never do with a horror movie haha but it was still sort of bright outside and it didn't seem too harmless from the beginning. I made it to almost 30 minutes into the movie and then just praised the Netflix fast forward screen for showing thumbnails which I 'watched' until the ending. I knew what was going to happen to the characters so I really wasnt interested in the movie anymore.

Please just watch this if you have friends over and are wanting to discuss how this movie adds to the decrease in good horror movies these days.

3/10 and I don't know why I even gave it this. I felt bad for the tree! Haha

This movie is paying people to get higher ratings in micro jobs! Proof?
Here it is.. http://adf.ly/QRZ7s. This is a sign of fooling people to
watch the so called "Great Movie" because of higher rating. This should
be banned.
