my guess as to the ending

After watching this movie, this is what I think happened. I think that dude James got so depressed that he couldn't get back with Emma, so he faked his disappearance, creeped the shiznit out of everyone, killed them in the way the story was told, and finally in the end, he finished himself off, which is why he is the last one to fall from the tree. That's how I saw it.

I was thinking the same thing.

Same here!

My thought was he became possessed by whatever creepy spirit was haunting the tree. There was definitely an other worldly element to it. James couldn't have faked the winged creature that was chasing them. Plus how do you explain him suddenly appearing in the back of the locked car, then seconds later being yards ahead of the woman in the end?

He was crazy and the spirit or whatever it was knew it and helped him get revenge.

This movie is paying people to get higher ratings in micro jobs! Proof?
Here it is.. http://adf.ly/QRZ7s. This is a sign of fooling people to
watch the so called "Great Movie" because of higher rating. IMDB should do something about this.

James was possessed by the spirit of the monk. Like the monk, he loved the girl who wouldn't love him back so he killed her. And all couples who visit that place are affected by the evil spirit. He was possessed right after they found the fox in the ruins , when he went inside the black hallway or whatever it was. This film was ok, I think I could stand it more because they were British. If they had been american I would have turned it off long ago.

I agree with you. They mention a few times in the film that James was struggling with his mental health and throughout the film, he has a lot of deal with emotionally. What with his current girlfriend kissing Scott, then Scott being horrible and then being rejected by Emma, I think he pushed over the edge. Sometimes, killing people like this is an extension of a suicide wish, so it makes sense that he kills them and then kills himself. The only thing I can't get my head around, is the fox disappearing because we could see by the camera angle that he was nowhere near it.

James was never possessed. He used the whole urban legend about the tree as his M.O. He wanted Emma. He used Lynn as bait to get her to break up with Scott but when he realized he'd never be with her, he simply snapped and killed the three of them and then himself.

He actually planned it all along. Remember the first night when he got the exorcist book and the pretended he never had seen it before? How he was looking for an opening in the ruins?

reply

I guessed it was the priest, but then again, the last half hour I just skimmed thru at 1.5x speed, so I didn't 100% see everything, because I couldn't any longer five a *beep* What a disappointingly awful, uninspired film.
