Cousin marriage...

I'll admit to being slightly disturbed/curious as to why the family seemed so eager to marry two cousins together. That there be attraction--hell, infatuation even--okay, I totally understand it... lekin shaadi?

Mind you, I know it was and still is a common practice in many parts of the world; it's just that I had never seen the subject depicted so clearly in an Indian movie before, and--just so you know I'm not a complete neophyte--I've seen quite a few independent, artsy productions other than the mainstream Bollywood ones.

I'd love for some generous and well-knowing soul to enlighten me on the matter...

It's a very common theme in all South Indian language movies.

that's just gross dude. why are south indian movies so into that? cousins are basically like extended siblings :S

Movies depict it because in most south Indian rural communities it is still practiced. Reel life imitating real life.

It is quite common every where in south. Now that education has given some incentive on biological precautions it is going down.
