Tip of the iceberg.... so to speak

There was a lot of potential here, but I wish they had done a full series and played out more of the happenings on the boat before it sank. I understand that the ship sank and it was different for everyone aboard. We got that from the film Titanic which showed lower and upper class. We got some second class passengers here, but I still don't feel like I know what second class was like. And the writing wasn't bad here, just very narrow. We have learned a lot about Titanic in the 100 years since its sinking and yet the shows and films tend to sort of repeat themselves over and over. Which is exactly what this did, but it literally just repeated over and over and over. I would love to see a full series about the birth, life, and death of this ship.

Think of all the stories that exist there. There were huge problems during the construction. Catholic and Protestant tension in Ireland, at the ship yard. Several men died during the building of the ship. Then some won tickets for the maiden voyage based on their work ethic. We saw very little of that in this show, just a hint. But there could have been so much more. I want to see the happy times that played out on the ship in the days leading up to the sinking, just as much as I want to see the drama and heartache.

Don't get me wrong, I am not here to bash this series. I am just here to express the fact that I wish they had gone even deeper with this concept, because I think it could have been a really great series instead of mini-series.

Every film and miniseries always shows life on the ship on its maiden voyage, and always shows the sinking. There will be a new series coming out this fall that focuses on the construction of the ship, so we will get a new look at the ship later in the year.

What I really want to see is a series about the aftermath of the sinking. This would be about the inquiries held after the sinking, all the questions, the newspapers, and the survivors after they arrive on land. No movie or miniseries has ever shown what happens when news reaches the mainland America or England, and only a couple of films show shots of the Carpathia arriving in New York, but nothing else.

What I want to see is the years after the Titanic disappeared and the effects of the disaster among the survivors and the people around. Once that story has been told, if that is combined with the new series about the building of Titanic, along with every other film of the voyage, then the entire iceberg will have been seen.

I'd love to see the aftermath too. Just read something the other day about some of the tragedy that happened after. People going crazy, 8 survivors committed suicide. Supposedly White Star Line charged the families of the musicians for the loss of the uniforms.

I just love the history, because it is such a human situation. I had not heard that they were soing a series about the construction, but I will be watching for sure.

I thoroughly enjoyed this mini series, but, I wish it would have had a couple of more episodes to focus more on some of the passengers we grew attached to. Also, I've been reading about thep aftermath - the Carpathia, the hearings, the sacking of the White Star staff and Woolworths helping them out - and I would have liked to see them focus on that abit

And I agree with this. I wish we had more. The series was well made and the acting was fantastic. Just wish there was more than four episodes.
