Felt a bit rushed...

I didn't *hate* the whole replay-the-story-every-episode thing, as we had been promised that the last episode was going to clear up everything, and tell you who survived, etc. However, having just watched it, I can't get over the feeling that a lot of it was rushed, and therefore hard to keep track of, and this may be partly due to the fact that it wasn't chronological.

For example- can anyone clear up for me what happened to Harry? 'Cause I have no idea.

It needed more time, I think, to make the stories more, for want of a better word, believable. And also, it needed the whole episode and/or maybe a list of some sort, or a scene on the Carpathia to show us what happened, as to me it seemed to abruptly end with no solutions.

Any thoughts?

Agree - poorly done, and the final sinking was handled better even in the 1953 movie! As for Widener:

Your name is of no importance and you live in the pipe in the upstairs water closet.

Thank you!

Sad though :( I hadn't realised that he was an actual passenger...

reply

There's a scene from Episode One when Mrs. Widener says "My son can't swim."

Anyone who needed this series to show us what happened on the Carpathia, and to provide solutions, doesn't deserve to own a TV set.

I could care less, but I don’t care enough to bother.

reply

I wasn't saying that I didn't know what happened afterwards, I just simply wanted more closure with the characters and their stories. SO sorry for getting into it enough to want more.

reply

I felt the same as you. I didn't feel enough resolution for the characters at the end.

reply

I know, I was basically teasing.

There are versions announced on BD/DVD that are stated to have considerably longer running times, so maybe what we've seen is a seriously cut-down version to fit commercial TV running times?

This wasn't really entertaining enough in the cut we saw to want to watch it again, but if it turns out there really is a longer, better fleshed out version I'd be happy to give it another go.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

Agreed. I was excited that they were making a Titanic that was focusing on a lot of different characters from all parts of the ship. The problem was that they didn't give most of the characters enough screen time. I know Andrews is one of the more famous passengers, and he's been portrayed a lot, but why introduce him, and then let him disappear in the middle? And the anarchist guy- I thought his story line was odd, and didn't really have anything to do anything. It was random, and took up screen time that could have been used for other characters.

I was also upset that Paolo *and* Harry died. I wish at least one of them survived. (I guess I should have expected that, since it is about the Titanic). But they didn't even get decent death scenes. A lot of the characters died, but they went, okay, the boat is sinking. They're on the boat. Now they're dead. I don't need a death scene for every character, but they could have done more than just show their bodies later.

I also agree with OP about a scene on the Carpathia. It would have seriously taken like two minutes and offered a lot more resolution. All in all, I was pretty disappointed with this version. I really wanted to like it. And there were some story lines/individuals that I did like and root for. But they either should have made this miniseries longer to accommodate all the storylines, or cut some of them.

reply

Yeah, I was rooting for Harry and Paolo the most! Teaches me not to have favourites in a Titanic story!

reply

So disappointing. Stories and timelines jumping all over the place, not one likable character or storyline. What a mess. I can’t believe I stuck it out for two hours. I couldn’t take it any more.

reply

While I didn't mind the ending part, I would have liked maybe an extra episode / less repeated scenes to get to know the characters / stories abit more. I really enjoyed the show and liked some of the characters so I'd liked abit more time with them. I'm waiting for my dvd to arrive to watch it again

reply

When watched all together in one night, it doesn't feel as if it was rushed.

reply

The only thing that I'm really upset about with this minseries is that Paolo died! Seriously, would it have been that bad to make him a survivor? Yes, Harry died because he couldn't swim, but why did they pull another 'Jack' and kill Paolo!
Serves me right to like a character on Titanic. :(
