David Blair

I'm glad that we finally got to meet David Blair, who would have been second officer on Titanic if not for Wilde. I'm not sure if his portrayal is accurate, since little is known about him, besides the fact that he accidentally took the keys to the Crow's Nest locker, which had the lookout's binoculars inside. But had Wilde not been brought on board, due to the White Star Line transferring him from Olympic to bring experience, Blair would have remained Second officer, Lightoller would be First officer, and Murdoch would be Chief officer. As a result, I have no doubt in my mind that the infamous night would have been different. With the Lightoller in command on the bridge, the collision would have been different, and maybe wouldn't have happened at all. But suppose it did happen. Then how would events be different with the lowering of the lifeboats, with Murdoch, Lightoller, and Blair in their ranks?

Now I've heard many 'what if' stuff, from lifeboats and watertight compartments, to the mystery ship and the collision, to binoculars and the weather. I would like to add a new 'what if' to the list.

What if David Blair was on board as second officer? The officer shuffle never happened, Wilde was never on board, and Murdoch and Lightoller were Chief and First officers respectively. How would the events of April 14th be different?

I hear you man and reading this just now has of this moment plagued my mind and thoughts. Maybe with Lightoller aided by crowsnest binoculars the events might have differed. Maybe they would have seen the black nothing with the absence of stars a minute or so earlier and see that it was an iceberg. Or maybe see it when they originally did and maybe Lightoller orders the ship be turned hard to Port instead. Or a dead head on. I really love this because I really would love to be able to play with fate like this and try out different scenarios to see how events play out differently each time or as I have always wished ? Titanic misses the iceberg altogether.
