Ripoff of the Korean film Oldboy

reply

Yeah, it sure was, but i dont mind at all. It was enough parts that differed, and the whole setting was different. Really liked both!

reply

No, this is an homage; if a Korean movie took it's ideas from this, THEN it would be a rip-off.

reply

Wow, that's not racially biased at all.

reply

It's not really, but this is my fault as I failed to provide enough detail. Think of it this way; what is 'Eastern Condors' called by most Americans? A knock-off of 'The Dirty Dozen' right? But on the other hand, what would you call 'Reservoir Dogs'? An HOMAGE to 'City On Fire'. Many critics will probably tell you that the opening to 'Tango And Cash' and the shantytown chase scene from 'Bad Boys' borrowed elements from 'Police Story' (the Jackie Chan movie, not the TV series), but what happens when say, an Indian film (such as 'Sholay') takes elements from an American western, its because they STOLE those scenes/ideas. Scenes/ideas that the American western already BORROWED from various Japanese movies. Indian filmmakers are such hacks!

You see, I have no bias; I'm just stating a fact.

How the heck do you come to those conclusions?

reply

Don't you mean a rip-off of the Japanese manga Oldboy? Oldboy was originally a Japanese manga. Without the Japanese manga, you wouldn't have the Korean film.

reply

I literally just finished watching Oldboy like 15 minutes ago for the first time. I was just checking to see if there are any more movies I should go back and watch. I dont even remember this movie because I know it sucked though Im surprised to here there was an incestuous relationship here too. LOL. Though, Oldboy sucked too. Not as bad as this obviously. Also, it cant Oldboy a ripoff of the manga. It is an adaptation in that case. As domeone else said on those forums Oldboy could be considered a ripoff of Oedipus or other weird ass times in Greek Mythology but not the Manga.

reply

True. The Oldboy movie is different somewhat than the manga. Have you read the manga? It's online for free on mangahere dot com.

reply

So I've only ever seen Oldboy once. Other than the daughter *beep* how is this a ripoff?
