At the cgi, the scenes on the motorway were a killer.
So forgetting
A battery on a cell phone is everlasting.
You can drive a car for miles on a can of petrol.
You can steal a car and the police won't have a clue.
The film in general was predictable but sufferable.
Goof: At the end they boarded a twin hulled fast craft, but they sailed off on board a single hulled ship
Yeah, This should've been called "Oh no, one of our hulls is missing". lol

shareExactly, they filled the car up once they got it back on the road, I assume he wasn't using the phone much so perhaps that's why the battery lasted a long time (it also wasn't an iPhone which runs our of power very quickly), he was only using it for the odd call and finally, the police had no reason to suspect the car had been stolen and so didn't check.. They were stopped a long way from where they took it and so the police would have needed to check the system for this but were convinced by the story that he was just his father who was ill...
