Is this real thing ?

Is this the title for next tron movie !? its out in 2011 :S ? ANSWER!?! so the next movie will come ?

reply

It is a special feature on the blu-ray and dvd...and it is a teaser trailer for TRON 3

reply

Yeah, it's a short film that used un-used footage from the movie as well as clips from various promotional tours (ie comic-con) to make the situation of "Flynn's disappearance" a real event.

The real surprise is the use of Dan Shor, the actor who played RAM in the orignal Tron.

I hope there will be another Tron movie.

They initially said it would be a trilogy and i'm guessing the tv series is intended to help maintain interest with the new fans.

Bruce Boxleitner said today in a Q&A session (also got a photo taken with him, really nice bloke!) and he said Tron 3 is definitely in preparation and will get the go ahead if the Uprising show does well. He doesnt know any more as his pay grade isn't high enough! (his words).

But Tron Legacy is a profitable movie so there shouldnt be many reasons to not finish the trilogy.

reply

tron legacy wasn't that profitable. It barely made its budget (170m dollars) in the US and a rule of thumb is that a movie has to gross double its budget to break even.

Tron Legacy had to rely on the foreign gross which was about 228 million dollars. Problem is though that the movie company only gets about half or less from the foreign gross.

there's a big chance that the producers of Tron Legacy earned very little money, if any.

reply

Hope they make a third movie, because Tron Legacy is soooo good. I think the fanbase will keep growing faster as kids grow up now

My understanding is that while that's considered 'usual', you can't always assume that's the case when Disney is the company behind the film. Unlike a lot of other film companies, Disney tends to handle a lot of their own foreign distribution and so are most likely able to keep more of the foreign box-office than companies that have to go with/pay foreign distributors.

I like it when people just make stuff up and hope that people will assume they know what they are talking about. No...there is no rule of thumb that says movies should gross double their budget. Especially not when it does well overseas.

reply

First off, there is no rule of thumb like that especially if the film does well overseas. There are many franchises that barely make their money back if at all in the US but because of higher foreign sales they keep making the movies.

On the US box office numbers for Legacy, i have one major issue with how Disney handled the release of it and i think they shot themselves in the foot this way. They were making a sequel 28 years after the first movie. Yet where was the first movie? You couldn't find it on iTunes, Netflix, Redbox or Blockbuster. I could find some old VHS copies on eBay but DVDs were hard to find. They weren't even airing it on TV, including their own channels. Disney should have done a remastered deluxe version of the original film and made it available everywhere possible for several months before Legacy was released, for everyone to see without even hunting for it! It would have drummed up a lot more anticipation for a lot of people and the ticket sales would have been double in the US in my opinion.
