So mom was going to run off without saying bye to husband and son?
This broke my heart how she took her daughter's hand and turned her back on her husband and son.

Interesting point. If I remember correctly though, her eyes weren't open at the time, so she might not have necessarily seen them until Ben spoke up, although that point may be trivial. She does apologize the first time she leaves though, even if it is rather abrupt.
