this movie just shows how weak we really are

This experiment just proves how majority of people are pretty weak minded and we are quite lost in this world and in our lives. We are so desperate for help and direction we easily buy into these cons, as in con men.

We so easily buy into this cult of personality, we so quickly want to believe normal average and sometimes malicious people with bad intentions are greater than our own selves.

I do wonder why we Americans are like this, why we seemed to be more swayed by sheep like thinking than other cultures? is it really safer to move with the flock? Is it really safety in number we must swim in schools?

It really was quite scary if Kumare wanted to continue doing what he was doing he would easily be a multimillionaire and have all the national fame if he chooses to continue.

I share your sentiment on the fear here.

I don't think Americans specifically are any more vulnerable to this kind of thing than those who live anywhere else in the world. The fact that much of the news worldwide recently came to a halt for the election of a Kumare facsimilie (only with approx. a billion followers) is a pretty clear indication that many people across the world haven't quite figured out-that is to say, haven't put forth the effort to figure out, or further even wanted to figure out-that they're being lied to so heavily.

But hey, at least Pope Francis likes dogs. There's always room for another dog person in the world, eh?

I'm not sure this movie proves it's an "American thing" as much of the early movie is rooted in India. Perhaps it's more just the human condition? We are always looking for something to believe in.

One of the most interesting aspects of this movie for me was that people already know what they need to do...they only need the awareness/confidence to act on that knowledge. Another way of putting it is many of us live our lives self-deceived.

It seemed to me this movie was not so much about discovering "scammers", but realizing the truth of our own power. (It started seeking real gurus, then documenting fake gurus, then engaging in real human transformation.)

Another way to look at it would be that all these people were so strong, that they opened themselves up to someone who was offering help. After all, why would any one person deliberately try to hurt another human? Why would anyone choose to do that??

I think it's interesting that so often people point that finger at those who get hurt rather than those who do the hurting. To be open and trusting is not a hurtful act. To lie to people's faces and publicly humiliate and belittle them...IS hurtful.
