is there any line at all for comedians to cross in these roasts

let me start off by saying i'm a big fan of these roasts and of stand up comedy in general

but what i've noticed about this roast is that a lot of the jokes told really were encroaching new territory as far as being in really bad taste was concerned

punch lines like whitney cummings telling larry king : 'take the hint god wants you to die'

and

new guy on donald trump : (paraphrasing) 'the difference between you and michael douglas is that when you get cancer people won't feel sorry for you'

did other viewers on this forum find this funny as the audience members seemed to or am i the only one who felt offended and kind of sick inside?

i think comedians should really think twice when it comes to subjects like death because especially with larry king and the recent history of roasters and roastees dropping like flies it can strike a raw nerve

don't get me wrong pushing the envelope is what people do in comedy but i felt there are better ways to do it in a non-threatening not-as-a-malicious manner like the late, great, Greg Giraldo managed to do soooooooooo *beep* well on these roasts

Don't think they have a line. Perhaps they do, when it comes to terrorism and making fun of the current president.
Alright, Seth did make a reference to terrorism in this roast, but it wasn't too bad.

The cancer joke by the newcomer was both shocking AND hilarious, IMO. At first it was seemed out of place, but his delivery just made it seem so funny.

I agree with you Greg Giraldo was a genius.. So sad when I found out that he'd died, he was my favourite roaster. R.I.P

Isn't this the whole point of the roasts? Whitney and almost everyone else made a ton of dying/dead/soon to die jokes at the Joan Rivers roast, so it's been done before anyway. the Comedians are there to help us laugh through bad chit in life, but if it becomes too bad taste for you don't watch it anymore..because I don't think anything is off limits with the roasters, it's just upto Comedy Central to decide what gets edited out.

Smile like you mean it...

I like everything (except the situation) Actually there was a terrorist joke. I think that crossed the line. "The second worst tragedy that ever hit new york" Donald Trump.

I thought that was pretty funny actually. The cancer joke from Jeff Ross crossed the line I think but maybe that's just me because of my own fears.

Of course there are lines and boundaries and that's the point of comics, the good ones, to deliberately cross them and take us along for the journey. You don't catch the big fish at the surface, you do it by delving deep. "Comedy comes from pain", according to Jeff Ross and I thoroughly agree.
