Mark Harmon as Davenport?

I consider myself a moderate fan of the "Prey" novels and I love "NCIS" but I can't see Harmon as Davenport. I always had somebody like Gerard Butler (if it were a theatrical feature film), Rufus Sewell or even Patrick Wilson. I'll take a wait and see with this movie but I'm not too keen on the choice. Hopefully it works out and USA will do a "Jesse Stone"-like series with "Prey".

From what I understand there are a few planned with the Prey series...and I for one am looking forward to it.

Hope so. No way can it be worse than what Eriq La Salle did with the role in Mind Prey.

Well since I started reading the books, because Mark Harmon was in the movie, I can see him as Davenport.

First, I want to say I think Harmon could pull off the role, but when I read this description for Davenport:

"He was slender and dark-complexioned, with straight black hair going grey at the temples and a long nose over a crooked smile. One of his central upper incisors had been chipped and he never had it capped. He might have been an Indian except for his blue eyes."

I did not see Harmon fitting it. But hopefully it's well written and does lead to a movie series for USA Network as it'd be great to finally see Sandford's work get wider exposure.

I'm curious to see what supporting characters they'll work in, if not in this one but future additions.

Harmon is a decent actor but he is entirely wrong for this part. He's a decade+ past the right age, to small and doesn't project the dangerous nature and harshness of Lucas Davenport. At least they got a decent actress for Carmel Loan. Who ever is playing Clara Rinker is the make or break character. If sh is awful or miscast then this thing is dead in the water.

Still it should be better then the Dr. Benton version of Lucas Davenport. Man that thing blew chunks.

Indeed. I unfortunately caught that POC on TV a few years ago...

I just can't picture him as being Lucas for several reasons, a few of them others have already stated. I like Harmon in his role on NCIS but IMO he's much too old for Lucas and just doesn't give off that 'dangerous' edge that I've always read that Lucas was too be. Hate to sound like a broken record but Harmon just have that dangerous edge to him. Remember Lucas is supposed to be a dangerous bad a$$ as well as a lady's man...Harmon just isn't that at all. He might do good in the role and definitely a better pick that Dr Benton Lucas which I thankfully didn't get to see as I know that would've ruined the prey series for me. Thanks to the internet I steered clear of that one.

Well I have to say I'd rather see Mark Harmon as Lucas Davenport than Eriq Lasalle!! In the books, John describes Lucas with piercing blue eyes and dark-ish skin. Eriq is a black man, so does NOT look ANYTHING like the Lucas I have in my brain. I love Mark, NCIS, and anything that he's been in! I'm soooooooo looking forward to seeing this movie!!! I've read these books over and over again, and I would like to see them make movies out of all the books.

When I read the books I always picture Tommy Lee Jones in "The Fugitive".

I think I am, therefore, I am. I think. George Carlin

As a huge fan of the "Prey" series I've had, in my mind's eye a picture of Lucas Davenport. My vision of Davenport is based on the description in the novels.
While I kind of like Mark Harmon as an actor, he doesn't fit my perception at all. I was thinking of someone more along the lines of Chris Noth. He has the size and the attitude.

I've read the books at least 2 or 3 times each, and consider myself a huge fan. I'm actually in the middle of the latest Virgil Flowers novel. I always thought if they picked up any more for movies that Thomas Gibson would be the guy they'd cast. He seems about right and can project that bad-a$$ attitude on Criminal Minds at times. Harmon does seem a little old, and if he was going to be cast in this series, he would be perfect as Sloan. But I'll watch, just because I want to see what they did with the material.

I've always thought of Graham Greene as Davenport. Broader in the shoulders to fill out the expensive suits, darker complected, and with more gray in his hair in recent books than in earlier ones. And I see Jamie Lee Curtis as Weather (probably the short gray hair), and in a perfect world Virgil Flowers would be played by Kieth Urban and they would find an older DJ Qualls to play Del.
