Idea for an episode

Taffer needs to be on The Simpsons and take a nice visit to Moe's Tavern. I'd LOVE to see that episode!

Good idea. I'd count on it happening.

Cheers would have been a good one as well

reply

Wasn't the Cheers bar successful?

reply

Yeah, but Taffer would have found SOMETHING wrong with it.

Taffer would have tried to fire Carla for her abrasive attitude. Then he would have alienated regulars like Norm and Cliff with a trendy makeover. Then he would push Coach into retirement and promote Diane to manager.

Has "Bar Rescue" ever been parodied on a skit comedy show like "Saturday Night Live"? That could be hilarious.

Bar Rescue was parodied in a Conan sketch a while back called "Petting Zoo Rescue"; Taffer basically did his same shtick only this time it was with a petting zoo. He was hollering about the unsanitary conditions, specifically pointing out animals "crapping" all over; he then closed with his trademark "Shut it down now!" shout...

"...And on this farm he had an igloo..."

BJSmith81's post about the bar in Cheers:

And part of Jefgg's post:

This is because Jon Taffer (and the Spike-TV network) caters to younger, hip, trendy 20-something-year-olds, instead of an older demographic.

He also probably would've chastised the Cheers bar owners/employees for not getting more young female customers, and not selling more cocktails instead of serving them beer.

Part of the Cheers TV theme song lyrics includes the lines:

"Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came;
You want to be where you can see,
Our troubles are all the same;
You want to be where everybody knows your name."

Bars, taverns, and lounges like the Cheers bar need regular customers, but it's usually the same people who are late-30's and older. But after watching every Bar Rescue episode, I get the impression that it isn't enough for Taffer's standards.

In the Canyon Inn episode during the first season, Taffer said that if a bar wants to be around for a long time, it needs to constantly attract a certain percentage of newer (and younger) customers, because middle-aged and senior citizen regulars won't be around if they move to another city, or have health problems, or go into retirement homes, or (even worse) they die off. All of those possibilities would result in a permanent loss of customers, and threaten the bar's continued existence.

Now, as for putting Coach into retirement...

Not only does Taffer not like older customers...he doesn't care for older employees and owners either! Ironically, Taffer himself is middle-aged, so I guess he doesn't care if he feels alienated or being discriminated against inside a trendy hipster bar if he were a customer!

This is a great thread.

Sometimes it does seem that Taffer is ageist.

There actually WAS a bartender named Coach at Lona's in Long Beach, California. That was the dump with the stupid lobster crane game. Coach had two speeds, stop and reverse. But he wasn't the weekly casualty. It was Bill the douche bag was robbing the place blind. Lona was such a cripple she didn't want to get rid of him.

This would actually be hilarious.

The kids will eat him alive.

I think of The Flaming Moe every time Russell Davis makes a flaming cocktail. I think that guy is a pyromaniac.

Back in 2001, The Simpsons did have an episode titled "Homer The Moe", where Moe remodeled his tavern to attract a younger, hip, artistic-leaning, upscale, and affluent customers. He renamed his bar as "M", and remade his bar's décor pretty much the same way Taffer has done on his Bar Rescue makeovers: post-modern architecture, trendy furniture pieces, big-screen TV's, etc. But as for the middle-aged regulars (Homer Simpson, Carl, Barney, and Lenny), Moe puts them in some booth tucked away in a dark corner, and cordoned off behind some rope. When they feel alienated with Moe's renovated place, they leave, and Homer decides to start up his own bar in his garage. By the end of the show, however, Moe undoes his changes and goes back to its previous look.

This points out a problem that I have with Bar Rescue: Taffer seems to imply that the successful bars and nightclubs are only for a hip, young (20's-to-30's year old) crowd, but there's no place for those who are 40's and over people, whether they are customers or the bar's employees.

LOLOLOL: I think I woke up all my neighbors when reading/laughing at your idea of a Simpsons/Bar Rsc. episode topic ! !

That would be Kuh-Lassic....

JUST imagine Bart & John arguing about how dirty the pour-spouts are, much less the hidden camera in the bathroom showing Lisa not washing her hands after her period, etc. !
