They should have pretended to kill each other and just play dead. How would the employer know if someone is dead or not anyway, he just assumes they are dead. All he had in the room was a camera for vision, so he had no audio feedback. They should have just plotted to fake their deaths. Pretending to choke each other - no blood required and you have your codes with nobody dying. Easy solution.

exactly what I would have done. Killed McDowell's character and taken his job. Not like the place was filled with security - only Billy Zane who looked more like a janitor.
