Confused by Ending

At the end, you see their car parked outside a motel room. I am confused, because the couple never heard the story on the News about the woman escaping from the mental hospital and her story. They were so sleep deprived, hallucinating, dead bodies all over their house, and believing the place was an evil force. If you notice the last shot, there is a bottle of pills on the night stand, and the baby was finally quiet. Were they sleeping? I didn't get that impression.
