Why the granddaughter?(spoiler)
Why didn't she pick up her grandfather? It seemed like she just oared away rather than waited for or tried to save the old man. Why?

The grandfather fell down before he could make it to the boat and the boat drifted away too fast for either of them to do anything about it. The shot showing the distance between the boat and the man from above convinced me that there was nothing left to do. It was heartbreaking to see the man cling on to the cottage that he had built from scratch as Nature destroyed the island, much of the crop, the cottage and its creator.
shareI think she couldn't. The boat was too heavy with the harvested corn and the current was too strong for her. It's a tragedy.
