Disappointed

I was really looking forward to this as this is one of my favourite NR books but I was quite disappointed.
Most of the characters were miscast, the dialogue was not great, seemed a bit stilted and I think that they could have kept more to the book and still stayed within the rough time alloted for the film.
I probably would have enjoyed it more had I not read the book and probably anyone who hasn't read it wouldn't be as picky as I am but I almost wish I hadn't watched it.

Nora Roberts movies seem to be notorious for miscasting. I think they've done well with a lot of the male leads (Jason Lewis and Johnathan Schaech were especially fitting for their characters) but the female leads are just disastrous in most of her movies. Brittany Murphy as Cilla was unbelievable (in a bad way), Leann Rimes was painful to watch and Heather Locklear was awful casting. Her acting was good (which, granted, is the most important thing) but casting the 40-something, short, blonde as the tall, willowy, brunette 20-something Reese was beyond ridiculous. And I couldn't get over her bad plastic surgery she had done right before filming. That movie was probably the closest in plot to Nora's book, so that was something.

I never read Carnal Innocence, so I didn't mind this one as much - but I was also one of the few who liked High Noon (I hadn't read that book either) and it does help in the enjoyment factor :).

Agreed. The females have a tendency to be horribly miscast. GA had ZERO chemistry with CE in here and she was rather painful to watch. In fact, she seemed like a supporting character rather than the main character. She felt completely disconnected from the story line. I didn't see what the male lead saw in her or why she was so important. When she spoke of her days as a violinist, I was like, "So what? What does that have to do with anything? What are you doing here?"
