Note: I have not seen the movie... just saw the preview before another movie... but I wondered if this was funded by the oil industry to try to lessen the ill-view of them in wake of disasters like the one depicted here.
shareLook at the producer credits for funding. The oil industry does not come off looking very good so I doubt it.
shareBut I see that as the intent even if Big Oil comes off bad... the story/this movie gives a human element to all of it. Makes it about people. Who cares if there was an environmental disaster of epic proportions... there were people there.

Yes, that is the whole point of the movie, to tell the story of the actual event and the not often discussed people who died that day. The environmental catastrophe is well known but not the human loss, which is very tragic.
