Yes, many people deride big business all the while taking advantage of what they provide, e.g. I doubt they would get rid of their iPhones even though they know the work conditions in place to create them. Its hipster hippocrasy at its finest. Human life is more important but the entire event was tragic all around.

Humans pound for pound exploit the Earth and its resources more than any other single animal by far. Human destruction and exploitation of the Earth and their ballooning population will make the Earth unlivable for future generations if nothing is done to arrest all the bad stuff human beings are doing to the planet.

Obviously we manipulate the earth since no other species has our intellect. Hominini have only been around a blink of an eye compared to overall evolution so perhaps we are merely a temporary virus which earth will be innoculated from in due course, or a meteor may do the job instead, either way I would not sign that 100 million year lease, I doubt we will be around to collect the security deposit.

Animal life more important than human? No. Less important, only up to a point.

A healthy environment? Essential. Bio diversity? Essential. Proper safeguards and environmental protection? Essential. If you don't get these things you are not awake to how the planet works.

You know what? I like that you made me think. Your words and ideas are not without merit. I love Disney and animals, for instance, but would rather not humanize animals anymore than I'd animalize humans.

My friend died in the desert avoiding a jack rabbit. Who am I to say which life is more important, but I do believe animals were created in the wild for a reason. I believe we humans can articulate thoughts through words, signs, etc. for a reason.

And yes, it seems people don't know about the oil in the ocean BUT like Disney with their animated animals, we are messing with nature and that's something more to think about.

It's probably the incoherency of the elites, Hollywood stars, etc who lecture us and preach to us about saving the earth but who can't quite seem to give up their big limo's, and really big mansions, and polluting private jets who have got you all steamed up.

A person who rides a bicycle whenever they can, who lives in a smallish house, who buys local produce, may seem to be a leftist, tree-hugger type of person but at least they are putting their money where their mouth is.

This attitude filters on down to the average person, who demonizes the oil and coal companies and all those associated with it, while wanting big houses that need a lot of heating and cooling to satisfy their own vanity.
