Why all these Latin-styles on animations this year?

Has anybody else noticed? The Mancho guy from Despicable Me 2, the similar plane from Planes and the Tuco brothers in this movie. It's gets continually more boring if you watch all three of them, no matter in what order. Is this some kind of a trend?

I don't mean the protagonists, but these relatively minor characters who provide comical relief. I just don't understand why all of a sudden animations take such a sudden notice on Espanol style (sorry I don't know the proper way to say this), nothing wrong just weird, I don't remember such characers from previous years.

By the way, when movies portray white people all over again, they don't usually emphasize on the racial matter. But in these animations, obviously their race and culture is a major aspect of their depiction. The way El Mancho dances, the Mexican plane's romantic songs and all those Tuco stuff....C'mon, it's just all too much in too little time.

With increased amount of spannish speaking immigrants than ever, the culture is seeping into the entertainment. Basically the cultures are merging and the new culture is showing up on places which usually had only the old cuture, and since neither of the cultures are trying to change to adapt to the mixed enviroment you see the clash of cultures which may be interested as a study but is poor entertainment.

Yeah, I don't know if it's worth studying upon cuz I'm not sure how much is stereotypically depicted. Interesting but three in a row? Having a hard time laughing.

reply

Stereotyping exists, but these stereotypes happen because there are people they are depicting. For example i fit the "white nerd" stereotype quite well.
Either way, depiction of cultures in media can tell us a lot about how we look at these cultures and what we THINK they are like (rather than real culture, its more of public opinion about a culture), and as i said its good study but poor entertainment.
Oh, and i guess its going to be a sad future for you, because this will keep increasing as Latin cultures keep intergrating in US culture more. While it does only affect american produced cinema, it is the largest one in the world and dominates western world.

You forgot Rango (2011) with Johnny Deep. Also playing with Mexican/Spanish steriotypes. That makes it 4x times in the same year.

These "hollywood big shots" directors, executives all go to the same meetings, they probably preached to each other to start bringing the stereotype more, for money.

That is why. People these days find it hard to believe the power of meetings, bankers, societies. They all work together and sometimes a big investor invests in several movies, with just one request: Make it more spanish and I will trust to invest, since the US has such a huge following of immigrants.

I mean, how do you think Obama got elected? Investors, betting he could, because african americans are def the majority in the US today. Any smart investor will bet their money on the african americans now. :D I sure would do the same.

I suppose, in your opinion, a "good movie" is one that denies social reality for an idealized America in which all Latinos conveniently don't exist. Luckily, the rest of the movie going public and film makers don't agree with you. Representing diversity in film is the antithesis of a boring movie.

The same goes for the "clash" you mentioned, which you believe results in "poor entertainment." Are you joking? Just recently, Mexican director, Alfonso Cuaron blew everyone's mind with Gravity, starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock.

Did you not see, Oscar winner, Javier Bardem in No Country for Old Men?

Penélope Cruz in Vanilla Sky?

The list goes on. This isn't a surprise to anyone who knows movies. Lastly, I wouldn't be making a big deal about language if I had such poor command of English.

You didn't build that wall TC now it's too late!! Better deport ASAP or Hispanics will be a third of the country in a few decades. Being pro-Catholic and anti-contraception also did you folks in.

(Which is really funny because i heard Republicans WERE pro-birth control until recently)

A good movie is one that you enjoy watching. This is different for different people.

The study of culture clash makes poor entertainment, because we dont watch movies to formulate doctorate thesis, we watch them to be entertained. It has nothing to do with the actors being from whatever nationality. Rather the movies depicting the cultures in the most cliche way they can which ends up just boring to watch. seen it once seen it a hundred times. Not every movie needs to have a fat mexican with a big hat you know.

Also that No Country for Old Men even got an oscar nomination proves how bad oscars are at actually knowing anything.

I just tried to watch Turbo, had to stop half way. The main character says amigo way too often, too annoying.

That's rather pathetic.
