Acting performances by leading actresses

I felt that the actress playing Mia gave a fantastic performance - so many emotional layers in that person, wonderfully played, plus she's so untipically beautiful. But the actress playing Frida just seemed a bit of an acting stereotype for my taste... While I could feel Mia's character all the way, Frida just couldn't get to me. :-/
Any other thoughts?
