what if Ridley had directed?

obviously the exact same script same actors

my guess is it would've looked pretty similar in terms of scale, visuals etc (bet Ridley is abit pissed off he directed Covenant over BR2049)

reply

I think Ridley Scott is just punching in these days.

Nah.

I'm a huge Ridley Scott fan, but I do consider that his work from the very beginning of his career has been pretty inconsistent, the same director of Alien directed Someone To Watch Over Me... the same director of Gladiator also directed G.I. Jane.

Even though he did a wonderful job directing the original Blade Runner (one of his best), look at the mess he made directing those Alien prequels. I am quite pleased with what Denis delivered.

Can't wait for Blade Runner 2049 to come out on BluRay.

It would have been a lazy, incoherent mess. Strong on visuals (though he would have relied far too heavily on CGI and quick cutting), abysmal in characterization and plot. And yes, all of this would have happened even if he had started with the same script, because he wouldn’t have been able to stop himself from “tweaking” it like the pompous ass that he is. I’ll never stop being amazed that this man’s first three films are what they are, considering what a horrendous mess his subsequent filmography has been.

Funny - that's what I wrote, not having read the replies on this thread.

Haha, that is weird. You might have actually posted first. It says we both did 14 hours ago.

Based on his latest alien films, I'm thinking the visuals would have been much better, while the story would have been tweaked and made even worse than it already was in this film.

Scott did some great movies, but his recent works are not very good. I don't think he would've done a better job than Denis Villeneuve.

it would have been incredible!

We missed out big time on Ridley's influence in the Alien sequels and by the time he was given the chance to make Prometheus he had to compromise for the sake of fan service... these restrictions would not have been there with a blade runner sequel as there isn't a comparable fanbase.

We would get FULL BLOWN Ridley... it would have been epic... Think the tactile atmosphere of the original bladerunner, mixed with the scale of Gladiator, the heart of A Good Year and the philosophy of Prometheus!

It would be hsi chance to do Prometheus right and finally link Blade runner to Alien, correcting the mistakes from James Cameron's Aliens onwards...

hahahha... guys, I think we dodged a bullet ;)

Serisously, I am a big Ridley Scott fan, I liked Prometheus and I think A Good Year is more authentic than 99% of romantic comedies out there and while I do think he would have actually made an interesting, thought provoking and visual sequel to Blade Runner, I am glad that Villeneuve was given this opportunity. 2049 was solid.

I really do hope we see a new large scale movie from ridley soon... very few directors make movies that good looking anymore

reply

I think it would have looked like his Hovis adverts, the best visual work he ever done

reply

people need to get over Ridley Scott, it's pretty obvious that his best films, Alien and Blade Runner, were flukes.
