AMAZING MOVIE! not for everyone.

2049 is breathtaking. Beautiful to look at with plenty of amazingly crafted ideas.

It will, however, suffer the same critics as the first one by the general audiences (I know critics didn't like the first one either), that being: "it drags".

Being perfectly honest, I do understand when people say the first one is boring. The genius of Blade Runner is in its atmosphere, not in its action. When Villenueve signed to direct this I thought "Now we're talking, the dude will take the atmosphere of the first one and blow it up with amazing sequences!". Althought he did just that, he did it in a way I wasn't expecting, he went FULL ON "Blade Runner!" (if that makes any sense.)

Anyway, atmosphere is amazing, story is amazing, acting is amazing, looks are amazing, but what really REALLY steals the show is the soundtrack. I never cared for soundtracks but this one is like the main character in the movie, just incredible.

Closing, if you loved the first movie you will DEFINITELY love this one. If you think the first one was boring, this might actually make you more sympathetic to it. ;)

Excellent. It’s always good to see a positive (enthusiastic) review in the midst of all the Internet forum bashing — so much of it is unsurprisingly coming from fans of the original. Every acclaimed movie is bound to get its fair share of criticism, but for a follow up to a monumental classic... things can get ugly.

Anywho, Villeneuve was the perfect director to helm this sequel.

sadly no atmosphere there, its 5 % of the original atmosphere and 95 % hollywood plastic

I agree with einstein...0% atmosphere and 100% hollywood plastic and a badly written script and badly directed fights...this movie is overrated af...the first one of Ridley did have 100% atmosphere and an easy story but it worked perfectly...this one tries to much to be something it cant be...its not bad but very overrated and mediocre.

He nailed it... I knew the Villenueve & Deakins combo would be able to do justice to BladeRunner's atmosphere and mood, but not in a slavish way or just copying the original... It looked great... the backlighting, the architecture, the lighting and compositions...

and

the sound was solid... a lot of the old Blade Runner vibe, but with a definate update by Villenueve, for example, there are parts where the tension builds up in a way similar to Sicario with proper, deep, rythmick bass..

I LOVE that they made a proper genre movie and didn't water down the movie for a general toy buying audience.. No compromise movie.
