so how is season 6?

I don't know yet if I'll watch it, but the feedback I've seen online doesn't seem to be great.

It's only 8 episodes and clearly has been thrown together from whatever ashes of ideas for the original season 6 was going to be. Robin does a good job of carrying it. But without Francis it just feels empty.

What's sad is this show came in roaring and goes out with a mew.

But all blame lies on Kevin Spacey and how he treated people. If he had more respect the series could have ended on such a high note. You never get to see Francis comeuppance he's just a ghost now.

/But without Francis it just feels empty./

This pretty much: it's like when preparing a delicious meal and you forget an important ingredient, it stills looks good but the taste is just not the same.

It looked like the Shepherds storyline was originally planned for Francis and they just cut a lot of it out and rewrote the rest of it for Doug Stamper. It played out kinda weird because they combined it with Doug's story with the reporters.

reply

I agree with everything you said except the blame does not lie on Kevin Spacey.

Yes, in his personal life Spacey is an obnoxious asshole, but it's our seeming cultural need to destroy somebody's career when they behave in antisocial ways that is the real reason the show went out with a mew... There was no overriding need to kill Frank Underwood or take Spacey out of the show. I believe it would've been the most popular season of the lot had Spacey been allowed to continue, frankly.

Personally, I didn't watch the last season and I plan on keeping it that way. As far as I'm concerned, the series remains unfinished.

reply

I don't blame Spacey myself.

This is nothing new with actors and actresses. They get fame, it goes to their head, and they develop some sort of a superiority complex. This comes along with being downright disrespectful to the cast and crew.

From what I understand, Spacey filmed two episodes before he was canned. Netflix should've either continued filming with him or have two-out-of-eight be shown with Spacey in it then have Robin Wright take over the rest. Kill him by the third episode. At least the sixth season would've been somewhat tolerable.

Too much Doug, too much Claire, and way too much confusion on who is doing what. The storylines didn't make sense half of the time.

And that ending...my God, I have no idea what to say. "HoC" went out with its tail between its legs.

Glad some people decided to skip it. This show ended with "Chapter 65".

It is always better to full ass nothing than to half ass anything, half assing is a waste of time.

reply

Yeah, it feels like a shell of what it was. The entire time I was rooting against Claire, but maybe we're supposed to...

I just finished watching Season 6 over the past eight days (one episode per day, so I can enjoy it).

Despite the early criticisms, the 'not the same without Spacey', etc. , I loved it . Thought it was well-acted, and well-written....until......the last episode.

It felt like the writers didn't know what to do to bring this to a satisfying conclusion, so they opted not to - called in amateur writers instead, and threw everything at the wall to see what would stick. Very disappointing final episode and finale for the series.

reply

I agree that was some over the top melodrama from Doug, totally out of line for his character. Plus there was no line that showed Claire knew he had done it. They just jumped to it to tie it up in a bad bow.

reply

Viewers who were with this show from the beginning deserved so much better for an ending.

Is she like season 1&2 Claire? Or soft/stupid season 3 Claire?
I sure loved the first 2 seasons. 3 bounced me off the hay ride.
