The Concept of Ending A Series Before It Was Supposed to End

Imagine if James Gandolfini had died before the production of Seasons 6A and 6B of The Sopranos commenced production.

Imagine if -- for whatever other reasons -- Bryan Cranston couldn't do the final season of Breaking Bad, or Jon Hamm couldn't do the final Seasons 6A and 6B (or was it 5?) of Mad Men?

Well...I guess we would have lived with the endings of the season before that happened.

It would have been fine in either case.

I'm guessing that's what happens to House of Cards. It ended well enough last season to be considered...ended.

they might still finish up? Spacey's character can just die. He's not the whole show.

its a dilemma

You don't have to imagine, we have shows like the ff that HBO canceled before it's time:

Rome
Carnival

Or even Star Trek Enterprise.

True. And Deadwood as well.

But I think with those shows, not enough widespread fan support had manifested(except maybe with Deadwood) to make it almost MANDATORY to bring the story to a full close. Lots of series start out with hopes for the long run and just don't make the cut(no matter how good.)

But I think House of Cards had built up a following and a big star lead in Spacey.

Indeed, that's another irony here: one of the big deals ABOUT House of Cards was that a major Oscar winning star like Spacey would do a Netflix series. Once Spacey led the way, other stars(like Adam Sandler) followed.

This show should have ended with season 2, or 3 at the latest. It kept getting sillier and sillier the longer it ran. But Netflix wanted to milk the shit out of it for as long as they could so they kept renewing it. And when the original showrunner disagreed with their plans to do that they fired him.

"My turn"

"Um... actually, no. You don't get a turn 'cos someone tweeted something".

What a crap world we live in. Who gives a fuck if Spacey touched a few people. He's Kevin Fucking Spacey, he can do that. He didn't rape anyone. People are too sensitive. And the stupid 14yo kid... what the hell was he doing at a grown-up party anyway. The whole thing stinks of politically correct bullshit.

They should make season 6, and bring Spacey back. Stupid Netflix can get fucked.
