What makes this show so good?

I've heard for years this show is great. Debating watching season 1. So what exactly is it that makes Houseof Cards so great? Not every day you see a show ranked 9/10 on IMDb.

What hooked me was Kevin Spacey breaking the fourth wall and talking directly to the audience. It's very intriguing and makes the whole vibe of the show feel like you're seeing something you're not supposed to, like he's giving you a peek into what really happens behind closed doors in politics.

I'm not a fan of Spacey looking into the camera. I think the first episodes are pretty bad. Acting writing direction. It gets better but you could probably skip season 3 altogether. Now I'm just watching it so I can say I finished it. It's mediocre

It's based on a good series of books, as a starting point. The books were made into an artful British series, The US version is following the same basic storyline, but has the luxury of more time to develop the characters. Plus, the US version has Kevin Spacey putting his own interpretation on the main character. Double plus, the wife in this series is whole lots more developed of a villainess than she was in either the books or the British series. This is the best part Robin Wright has had in years, and she is doing wonders with the character. To sum it up: good material to begin with done with more time to do it credit, and interpreted by two outstanding actors, under very good direction.

The writing, the directing, the plots, the subject matter, the performances by the cast...the music.

It's just great.

Kevin Spacey

And those who find politics interesting will naturally find this show interesting

The show exposes the manipulation and corruption that does indeed happen in real life governments, makes it very intriguing.
