Tim and Eric are basically trolls, which means...

... the only way to deal with them is to simply ignore them. They are the kind of people who revel in making normal people go crazy trying to convince them how stupid they are. You could waste all day trying to demonstrate how, at the most fundamental level, this is failed, humorless, garbage ... and they will LOVE it! That is the fun for them.

In other words, those who cannot actually achieve fame by talent, do so by notoriety. Don't give them that luxury - just ignore them, and they will go away.

well, I would say you got part of that right, TC, but part of what is so funny is watching conventional people try to convince them and others of how stupid they are. It should be obvious to the conventional people that Tim and Eric are acting stupid on purpose, but it is not, so the people have been successfully "trolled" and they are in fact ironically less intelligent than Tim and Eric.

gmverity:
Exactly. I saw someone on the internet comparing Tim and Eric to the likes of Bobby Hill (From "King Of The Hill") because they're "always trying to get a rise out of you and they try too hard". I nearly laughed myself to death because that's the whole logic of the characters Tim and Eric play on the show. They may both be called Tim and Eric, but the general idea as that they (The characters, that is) are horrible, awful comedians who fail to make anyone laugh. So I assume when he said that, he was thinking of the characters they play on the show and didn't get that it was an act. Idiot.

On this topic:
I don't think us Tim and Eric fans are trolls. We're close because we often use sarcasm or speak to others condescendingly, but trolls lack kindness and we don't. If haters of Tim and Eric just sort of said, "Hey, I have my opinion and you have yours," we'd probably set our differences aside. Instead you decided to insult us and be rude to us because we like them. So we aren't nice. See?

Tim & Eric are really just entertainment trolls. They intentionally produce horribly bad "comedy" and they find it funny that it actually gets on TV. The problem is that once you get over that thin concept, there is actually nothing humorous about it. What you are left with is a couple of manchilds aping around with stupid kindergarten level jokes. I'm sorry, but making intentionally bad comedy schtick is not really funny.

Kindergarten kids wouldn't laugh at Tim and Eric for the right reasons, though. Maybe they'd laugh at the Poop Tube because "AHAHAHAHA POOP", but if you watch that whole sketch, it says "The Following Commercial Has Been Modified For Mature Audiences". So there's your joke there. And would kindergartners understand that? Not even Judd Appatow's biggest fan would. It's not sophisticated really, but NOT kindergartner humor. Also, I like Tim and Eric and I HATE *beep* Adam Sandler, Kevin James, the whole lot. That tell you anything?

Sage advice.

Tim and Eric fans/trolls basically think anything they do is great, and that they are comic gods who are not to be questioned. And if you don't like their stuff, you're a mainstream loser.

I think a lot of Tim and Eric haters don't pay attention to the details the way the fans do. Take for example the "For Your Health with Dr. Steve Brule" segments of the show, or his spin-off show, "Brule's Rules"; nothing of what Steve Brule says has any hint of cleverness in it, on paper it simply wouldn't be funny. What makes it funny is the way John C Reilly delivers it, his character says his lines with such confidence, he has little quirks and mess-ups that feel entirely authentic, but are really just part of a skilled anti-humor performance. Anti-humor is what makes up the majority of T&E's comedy, and some people just cannot appreciate it.

okay, I revised my topic to remove the reference to fans being trolls - you are right, that was uncalled for, and I apologize.

Could be that its simply a case of the longer people watch the same comedians, the more they become endeared to them. There was a local access show in Dallas that I had to watch when I worked at the cable station - over the years, I found it to be extremely hilarious, but when I would show it to other "uninitiated" people, they would raise their eyebrows and look at me like I was an idiot.

Well, humor is something that is entirely opinionated. I mean, peoples' tastes of movies and music have a wide range. So do peoples' tastes in comedy.

i think that's a fair point. in a strict binary of pro-/anti- T&E, i would come down as pro-, but not rabidly so, as i admire commitment to a bit even if it doesn't pay off (see also mr.show). and they are creating new content-- which may or may not be a good thing. if you consider the anti-nostalgia of Everything is Terrible and the naivete of Harvey Sid Fisher, do we really need T&E? your answer might depend on how you feel about new content.
