How irritating was the Mexican chick

Seriously how irritating was the Mexican chick, the voice and her acting were terrible

reply

Her acting was spot on. I use to go to school with girls who acted exactly like her.

reply

onesummersday is exactly right. Her acting was spot on. As irritating as the character's style might be to you the actress did a superb job in playing that role. That is exactly how a lot of the mexican gangster chicks act.

reply

Not just that but she was obviously bisexual or lesbian, so she isn't gonna behave like most straight girls either.

She is in a gang, she is a lesbian, and she has a lot of control in said gang, so she is gonna be a loud in your face person trying to establish herself constantly as someone to not mess with. She can't be sweet and get any respect in a situation like that.

You can't be a tough woman without some man calling you an annoying b!+ch. That's just this sexist world for you.

As a bisexual woman, she didn't annoy me at all. I thought she was badass. Obviously, I'm not pro gang life, but she was smart and she handled everything very well for the life she was in. She was able to play women really well too, treating them nicely and getting some loving when she wanted it. The other guys she was with really needed her around because she was able to handle everything under pressure. Whether it was driving during a shooting or choosing when to make a hit on the cops, she had things squared out pretty well up until she got shot down. But I understand having a shoot off when the other option is life in prison. She had to call the cops putas and shoot them, to ensure her legacy.

reply

but she was smart and she handled everything very well for the life she was in

Yeah, getting yourself killed and smoking dope with a bunch of murderers is very smart indeed! If only more trash like her could be as "smart" and we'd have less of this garbage in our society.

reply

Not going to make excuses because there is always a choice. But once you have lived in those neighborhoods it's a totally different story. A lot of the kids in the neighborhood who don't join a gang get jumped or picked on because they don't have people. It's really about survival for them.

I knew a guy in my dorm who had this issue. Had to join a gang or get beat up everyday. Went out of state for college and is never planning on going back.

reply

Everyone and their cat is a bisexual these days, saying that gives you about as much perspective or authority to speak as it does miley cyrus

reply

"...and their cat"...LMFAOOO!!!

reply

Focking A she was spot on. OP seriously? Do you not know what realism is? Have you not watched any documentaries featuring the real versions of people portrayed in this film? Hech I've only watched docs but Heringbone here has seen it first hand.

That aside yes, I did find her irritating but not in the negative way you did. I found her irritating in a positive way, in that she was a vulgar, brutal, despicable person and that was irritating. I felt more passionately about her than I did any others of that little crew - I felt passionately that she was a disgusting person. I found it so rewarding watching the cun- t gunned down - that's how strongly I felt, that she was a vile cun- t to me. Well, that displays how spot on she was.

reply

Which Mexican chick. Like half of SoCal is Mexican in the film.

Though no the most annoying person was the white girl Janet that Gyllenhalls character was datinhg. Soooooo entirely nebraskan cornball. Wanted to punch her in the face during her scenes. Though I suppose that 's actually points for her accurate portrayal of her character

reply

Bit harsh on Janet, even though she was incredibly cheesy.

The OP must be referring to the one who thought she was the kingpin or something. Her acting was awful and definitely ruined the film whenever she appeared. That comical scowl on her face...terrible.

i think if you guys came out here to southern california you would understand how accurate her portrayal was without a doubt.

reply

[deleted]

Exactly. Those folks who saw this any other way don't know *beep* about South Central or East LA.

Gundam_bravo4-

Thanks for stereotyping everyone from Nebraska. That's like me stereotyping everyone that watches anime as being virgin nerds.

reply

stereotyping and generalizations do work. and they are pretty useful when making plans, so get over it.

reply

Yes, I'll still generalize Anime watchers as virgin nerds if need the point to come across, despite that I know people who are normal folk, gang-bangers, and drug dealers who watch it.

Though, you'll get over it once you realize not to take everything (especially on a movie msg board on t3h interw3bz) at full value.

reply

Gundam Bravo called Anna Kendrick's acting "Nebraskan cornball."

Ooooh, Anna (and half of Nebraska) is gonna go gunning for you, LMAO!!!!

reply

"Wanted to punch her in the face during her scenes. Though I suppose that 's actually points for her accurate portrayal of her character"

You redeemed the first sentence with the second. :)

reply

I think that says more about your issues than about the Janet character. The audience was not supposed to hate her. They WERE supposed to hate Flakiss.

reply

she was supposed to be annoying....she's tha villain

reply

From personal experience, I have to say that I have met people who acted like her when I was in high school. I did go to a pretty ghetto high school which had a large latino population. So, as annoying as you thought she was, a lot of girls from areas like that do talk and act similar to the way she does.

reply

Musicplaya:

Did you notice her interaction with America Ferrara's cop? There was obviously some "school yard" (or possible family ties) history with those two! I wonder how many Mexican families are divided by those who live the OG lifestyle and those who go into law enforcement?

reply

She actually deserves an oscar nomination for female supporting role for that! She was genuinely real deal!

To Miljenko,
I completely agree- she was fabulous. Even more impressive is that this was, at least according to IMDB, La La's (Yahira Flakiss Garcia) first film. Wow.

reply

There are tons of chicks like her where I come from, they are just as annoying and stupid as her.

reply

I went to high school with girls like that. Very irritating. Especially when they think they're the center of every guys attention.

BUT the woman in this movie turned it up to an 11 with it. It was overdone, corny, and just downright embarrassing. It was like if one of those high school girls was told to act tough, so they tried too hard too impress.

reply

I agree. I don't think anybody here is debating whether there are mexican gangsta chicks, it's the fact that she was trying so hard. It didn't sound genuine at all.

BINGO.

reply

I agree. She came across as a 'wanna be' rather than the 'real thing'. Seemed like she was just reading lines rather than playing the part. JMHO.

Living in the ghettos of philly taught me one thing about gangsta style latino and african american women. They shamelessly dial that *beep* up to 11. A lot of those women are loud and violent and not afraid to make sure you know it. And yes, they're annoying as hell.

Agreed, it's the worse, very annoying, she did a great job because she annoyed the hell out of me in this film LOL!

"I am the ultimate badass, you do not wanna `*beep*` wit me!"- Hudson in Aliens.

reply

True.
I guess we all just hate that type of person.
I couldn't stand those scenes.

reply

gotta say hispanic girls are dam gorgeous, and so FINE, loved the girl @ the party with the red tube top on, god what a freakin BODY!

reply

Hey. I think women if all types are beautiful, but character and personality go a LONG way.

reply

Nah, the fat ugly stupid ones and the ones with no class or style are hideous. Rachel Jeantel comes to mind immediately. The mexican chick is a similarly hideous personality and the actress played her spot on as a vile degenerate.

reply

She was great. Pretty much the best acting and stole the show. She's all anyone is talking about.

reply

Just because they talk about you under the title annoying and unrealistic terrible acting does not really equate to a good thing. There is a saying that any publicity is good publicity, but but the same cant be said of criticism. If all anyone is talking about is how poorly you act, guess what...you are poorly acting.

reply

Cept in this case they are talking about how good her acting was.
