...as the old saying goes, looks can be deceiving. And that stands true with this film. I also highly doubt this is anywhere close to a real true story. If so, maybe someone could enlighten me as to what the true events are exactly....

I can assure you this film is far from scary. The concept is fine (it has been done in much better fashion in the movie 'Vacancy' and even the direct-to-dvd sequel of that film was better than this) but the acting is terrible. The only actor who resonated as capable of reading a line is the guy who plays Steve, the tall dude with the glasses. The story line is also incredibly stupid. In 'Vacancy' it's at least semi believable that a couple would PAY to stay at a *beep* Motel if they were stranded or needed some rest for one night. In 'The Helpers' these idiots all blindly accept free car service, free food and drinks, and free motel rooms from complete strangers. I mean, getting free stuff is great, but wouldn't you at least bat an eye at the unbelievably friendly motivations of some people you found at a random gas station? None of the villains with significant screen time can act worth a damn, which makes their attempts at being menacing and intimidating laughable. There's also very little gore, which might have been a redeeming quality for horror fans.

I will say that the production values for a movie of this caliber are solid, and their is a modicum of interest once the captives start mounting a plan to fight back and escape, but that's quickly shot down with a goofy reveal and brief, vague ending. I don't know why I just spent this time typing a review that no one will read of a movie very few will see, but alas, it's here if you need it.
