Greek Mythology

Are schools still teaching the myths and legends from ancient Greece? I admit I am much older than the demographic for these films, but I immediately identified the characters and monsters shown in the film. It was clear what was supposed to happen when they went on different quests. Are you guys taught about the Odyssey and the like in school? I seems like people are confused about it when they discuss the film. I didn't read the PJ books either but my experience with mythology in school made it easy to follow. I think it was very light and silly when the characters were in "danger". Much of the original material is VERY dark and gruesome.

I studied some Greek mythology and history in 7th grade and read the Odyssey in 9th grade (which wasn't that long ago), but I don't know if they're still doing that right now. I was very obsessed with Greek mythology, so I wasn't confused when I watched the films.

Are you out of your Vulcan mind?

Not in my school. The only time we ever did anything related to Greek mythology was when we read a book about it(forgot the name)in 6th grade. I remember liking it, though.

I teach 8th grade English and we touch on it but don't really study it. They still teach it in 7th grade though.

They teach it in middle school in my town, and you can touch on it again in high school. (Massachusetts - classics are still taught)

I agree about the light danger bit. Except when they faced the hydra. My mom read me mythological stories as my bedtime stories so I had no trouble understanding the flim. I've read the book series and the continuation series. I'm mad about the fact that they didn't follow the book. In either movies. They messed it up a lot.I don't see why it was so hard to just stick with the book. It would have turned out a lot better

Most people do not believe in him but those who do call him the Winter Soldier
