Anabeth goes from bad ass to background character

Was it just me, or did they completely re-write her in this sequel? In the first, she seemed pretty steely and able to hold her own - in this one, she's a filler character, and comes off more as a brains Hermione Granger type exposition character. In the early scene where they kidnap Grover, she just gets pushed down to the ground and that's enough to knock her out.. in the first movie, she nearly killed Percy during swordplay.

what gives?
