plot structure seems familiar? (spoilers)

Somehow the plot structure of having two couples, one who are supposed to be together, but end up not being, but another couple who are not, but do get together, seems familiar, but I can't place it. Is it from Shakespeare? Or somewhere else? Can anyone think of any previous examples?

Greatly enjoyed the film by the way, though saw a couple of problems with the ending scenes. In real life he would not have just stopped by the shop and popped the question. He would have called and scheduled a lunch. Or maybe he would have been in the neighborhood of the shop by accident. Similarly, she would not have gone all the way to Italy without pre-arranging it. Laziness on the part of the writers.

Where's your crew?
On the 3rd planet.
There IS no 3rd planet!
Don't you think I know that?

Mamma Mia- the great movie filled w ABBA music which also starrs Pierce Brosnan. Meryl Streep is marrying away her daughter in Greece and it ends up like this, sort of.

That's true, good point! Thanks.

I've just watched Mamma mia for the first time and immediately went to see if someone mentioned this similarity on Bier's movie board. Very early in the movie similarities begin and continue to appear more and more throughout the movie.

As Mamma mia is a musical its screenplay is poor, there are almost no subplots and collateral characters, but as it was made years prior to Bier's movie it must be considered original (apart from thousand other more or less similar stories). Den skaldede frisør, on the other hand, looks as a very improved, accomplished copy (a very rare exception in the movie industry where it is a standard that copies are made with no creativity, no artistic volitions, no immagination, but just a pure market product to collect as much money as possible while the original story is still fresh), and I'm glad that I've seen it before Mamma mia.
