I'm guessing he was in his early 20's, but was he a virgin? He was reluctant to have sex with his fiancé Astrid. Then he allows that Italian guy to kiss him. So I'm wondering if he realized he was bi or just not ready to settle down. The plot leaves you hanging. I'm glad Astrid acted hurt and angry, instead of being OK with having her big day ruined. It's more realistic.

She told her mom he hadn't touched her since they'd been in Italy, implying that perhaps he had before that. And I suspect he's gay rather than bi, and had just been in denial, unwilling to face it, maybe even willing to suppress it and live relatively happily with Astrid, whom he did seem to love on some level, until he met Alessandro. Again, just my interpretation!
