No fighting

I liked that this show didn't show any bullspit with the contestants fighting. It was actually about the ideas and food. At the beginning, the taco douche had me worried the show would be them all gossiping and complaining about each other but I was pleasantly surprised.

I wish Spice Coast won, though.

It was a welcome change for a reality show. It might also be why it did so poorly in the ratings. No drama, no exciting "OMG" commercials to entice people.

There was enough stress with the challenges and between contestants and their chefs I felt. I didn't know it did poorly but I hope we can see another season.

I think there's little room for that kind of drama in this kind of format because the contestants are so separated. They are rarely if ever all together in front of the jury for instance.

There was 'tension' in the first few eps when they were all in the community kitchen creating their concepts. I believe the taco guy was an instigator (he was always trying to start something with one of the women - I believe she had red hair). Luckily, the producers saw that angle was over-done, and chose not to go that route. But it may have contributed to it suffering in the ratings.

"Thank You, St. Jude for prayers answered."

Reality without drama hardly ever works, certainly not on US television. I agree it's nice they didn't use that angle but overall it was still a failed new format for me.

I too found that aspect refreshing. I thought that taco guy or the assclown with the wings restaurants in the first episode would be kept around for drama's sake but was pleasantly surprised to see that didn't happen. But it did probably contribute to the low ratings.

Fighting and planted "villain" actors are for fake reality shows. This was a real show and all about succeeding.

reply

But ironically, fake reality shows succeed and real reality shows fail.

In the extra clips online there was some arguments and tension in their living quarters but in their interviews most said they made many lasting friendships.
