Not near as bad as some say---

In fact I saw it as one of the more accurate depictions of how an actual paranormal investigation/ghost hunt takes place.

In real life when investigating the paranormal there are not ghosts, and ghouls, and demons around every turn, behind every tombstone, and billowing out of a desecrated church.

The paranormal activities are rather few and far between, and actually capturing the paranormal on film(photo or video) is even fewer and farther between...and IMO, that's exactly how this particular film played out..in a far more realistic way, rather than going the over-the-top route of having there be demons galore, attacking and possessing the crew, and picking them off one by one until all, or most, are dead... Roll end credits.

While, yes, I get that the over-the-top-type demonic haunting is what many want to see in their horror movies, but IMO, this was depicting a more realistic view of how paranormal investigations/ghost hunts take place..and yea, realistically speaking they are often slow going with little actual, tangible evidence collected.

So, yes, different, and yes, not as thrilling as some would like, but to me it delivered a more accurate depiction of how these cases and investigations typically turn out.

I agree! It wasn't an Oscar motivated film, but it sure kept me intrigued. Also I liked the movie's buildup of suspense and dread, they wanted to shock you with a shudder instead of a jolt.
