Evelyn Quince

Ramsey Nasr's prissy performance as Goltzius in the framing segments of the film--in which, dressed in flamboyant clothing and surrounded by books, he addresses the audience directly as narrator and host--is so reminiscent of Jon Lovitz's performances as host Evelyn Quince in the "Tales of Ribaldry" sketches on Saturday Night Live, that I couldn't help wondering whether Peter Greenaway, Nasr, or both might have seen those sketches and been in some way inspired by them.

If that's the case, it'd be the second time a Lovitz Saturday Night Live character has served as an inspiration for a major film performance, since Johnny Depp's portrayal of Ed Wood in Ed Wood clearly owed something to Lovitz's "Tommy Flanagan, the pathological liar" character.
