6.2 - yeah right

The ratings have clearly been fluffed. 2.6 would be a more accurate rating.

Agreed. Also, hahaha!

Either that or, you know, maybe you have an opinion that a lot of other people don't agree with.

Just because YOU don't like something doesn't mean it is empirically not good.-Tina Fey

This is a tough film to rate, imo. Great cast for the most part. Brolin and Wiest as the parents are perfect, but the big surprise is Greta Lee as Hae Won. Fey and Poehler are their usual competent and funny selves.

But the problem is that the film plays out like an extended sketch piece, and it gets tiresome. That wouldn't be so bad if the jokes worked more often than they do here.

I'm between a six and a seven, but in any event can say for sure it is not worth watching more than once.

I agree, the movie was funny, but I felt like I was watching an episode of SNL. It seemed more like it was written to be one of their sketches instead of a full movie.
I did watch the extended version so that may have had a little to do with it. I will admit though I found myself laughing quite often!

Personally I dont watch movies like this to learn something, so they dont have to be some huge award winning movie, I watch them to be entertained and to laugh! Plus it helps make my problems disappear for a while.
That is the reason these kind of movies are made, we need a break from the real world sometimes!

Completely agree with that assessment and rating. I liked the movie but had no need to finish it in one sitting. I think they are too used to working on a week to week basis, so everything comes of just a bit rushed. There are many good bits but it still seems like tv. Some of it is because there are unnecessary characters played by their SNL colleagues, that do nothing to advance the narrative. They need to be funnier, if they are to be added unnecessarily.

A 2.6? Get real. It wasn't anywhere close to being that bad.

Hope changes everything.

Well it doesn't have one funny scene, the story was flat and the acting not very convincing. I seriously fail to find anything redeeming about it. I actually have it at 1-2/10 at the moment.

But of course, they say humor is subjective. The thing is I usually find Tina and Amy to be really funny, but this was just cringeworthy.

reply

Humor is subjective and this movie was not meant to be taken as seriously as most have taken it.

Hope changes everything.
