Anyone else surprised by how terrible this was?

Was it dumb of me to expect this to be as witty and smart as 30 Rock or Kimmie Schmidt?

Just watched it on HBO and I honestly feel it was as lazy as Sandler's Grown Ups films.

I saw about 5 minutes of it and turned it off. What I saw was dreadful.

I was prepared to thumbs-down it, but every time I turned it off, I went back.

The music box schtick was an unexpected roar. I gotta say, I thought it was funny. Sorry, can't agree.

Fey and Poehler didn't write or direct it so maybe you were dumb to expect it to be as funny as their own shows? I dunno, I rewatched it and it wasn't that bad, with my expectations lowered. Amy was great, Ike B was cute, Maya Rudolph did a lot with very little, Tina tried hard. But she's a nerd, too limited to convincingly play anything else, and the movie lost me whenever she attempted the OTT obnoxious party girl thing.

There are some funny moments; just not enough.

"What race are you? If you don't tell me I'll just...assume the worst."

Unfortunately, from the previews you had to know it was going to be a marginal comedy & that is what it was.

i just assumed fey had a role in writing this film and was expecting some sharp one liners in the style of 30 rock. my mistake. she was not involved in the writing at all and what i was left with was a vulgar film very short on laughs.
