Why did they all want to cheat?

I think they all had attractive wives. I don't understand that part of the movie, but I did quite like the mystery side of things.

P.S. I don't think cheating is ever right... attractive or not.

reply

Vincent seemed to get off on the power he had over other people

Luke didn't want to cheat at all, but he became obsessed with one girl.

Phil was a psychotic drug addict, and tbh his wife seemed cut from the same cloth.

Marty was a drunken fool, who constantly lusted after other women.

Chris was the biggest hypocrite, though his wife was cold and seemed to disapprove of any and everything he did.

I don't even know why they bothered casting such talented actresses as the wives in this film. They were completely wasted and served no purpose other than convenient plot tools.

Thats the real reason they cheated. Those "wives" were just that, boring, bitchy and completely useless.

They all spoke about alimony, skiing, their bosses' affairs etc.

Funny how everyone blames the men, but noone bothers to question the other side. Maybe all of the men were sexually unsatisfied?

Even if the wives are withholding sex from their husbands (for whatever reason), that doesn't justify cheating. Cheating is never the only option- if someone chooses to cheat, you cannot say it's someone else's fault, no matter the circumstances. If a poor man chooses to steal, it's not the fault of the person he steals from. A relationship of any kind requires work from both sides, but if one side isn't holding up their side, there's always multiple options for fixing that (not the least of which is ending the relationship).

reply

It certainly does. A spouse has a moral obligation to sexually satisfy their significant other.

No it is not funny . Everyone asks the same thing. Its never their fault. It's always the spouses fault for "driving" them to it. Have you read many of the posts?

Are you seriously saying every wife in this film was sexually unsatisfying? Every one??

There is no excuse to cheat. Women or Men. Get a divorce. Oh but wait then they would have to pay alimony and child support. Or they would have to give up their lifestyle (if it is the wife cheating and she isn't the breadwinner). That is why they cheat.

I agree though that many men probably want to cheat It's hard for them to be monogamous. They get bored. Like some other posters said. They like something different. They should never have invented marriage.

reply

It is in men's nature to have multiple sex partners. Period. Monogamy is unnatural. They can do it but it goes against their nature and really shouldn't be expected of them or you'll just be disappointed. Sorry to say, but true.

reply

It didn't matter how attractive or sexy or intelligent any of the wives were, I think the point being made was that the husbands were bored or dissatisfied with what they had and were ready to hoe into someone new just for the thrill of it.

It appears my hypocrisy knows no bounds.

Exactly. Tip to this kind of guy: Do not get married. But of course if u get her pregnant you will look like an ass. But if you like new and strange sex then stay single.

reply

So what if they had attractive wives, or if they loved them. It's about new booty. Variety.

It's just how male psyche works. You can fight it but you can't overcome it. And, sorry, everyone who says that's not true, either does not know better or is a lying hypocrite. There you have it - ugly truth.

reply

Cuz all men want to cheat eventually.....it's in their DNA

reply

I know the point is about why men cheat, but I've known far more women who have cheated on their men than the other way around. Monogamy is stupid and a product of society, not nature.

reply

Not me. I have 3 men in my family alone - both sides - who cheated and our now divorced.

As you mentioned, it's natural in SOME animals. Obviously, since ALL animals are not monogamous, then we aren't included in that group. Do you know how rare it is that ANYONE stays with the VERY FIRST PERSON they have sex with?

reply

More animals are not monogamous so the... it's not natural... argument is perfectly valid.

Even if the wives are withholding sex from their husbands (for whatever reason), that doesn't justify cheating.

Of course it does. In fact, that's the best possible justification. Sexual desire and release is not a choice. It is a necessity.

If your wife witheld food, you would eventually go find food elsewhere. You wouldn't sit around saying "oh well, since the desire and benefits of food aren't a necessity of existence, I'll just accept this."

Sex is not a choice. Sexuality is not a choice, gender is not a choice.

The sooner people grow up and accept this, the better.

It's something that occurs in nature. It's natural.

As is Infidelity.

Wives don't promise to always feed their husbands and if a man can't feed himself, he probably shouldn't even be married in the first place.

Wives don't promise to always give their husbands sex either. The point is, people have a necessity for both and are justified in seeking them out when they're no longer getting any.

Cheating is a choice. If you can't control who you have sex with, that's dangerous.....Or maybe instead of cheating, people could actually do something about their unhappy marriage? There's nothing mature or grown up about cheating, because you don't want to work at fixing your relationship.

That's assuming there are problems. If one partner is simply withholding or uninterested in sex then infidelity is understandable.

reply

This guy obviously doesn't get the point. He keeps making excuses why someone shouldn't cheat, even if their partner withholds for whatever reason.
How can someone work on a relationship if the other person is withholding or not willing to change?

reply

I actually didn't see Chris as the biggest hypocrite. Not excusing his behavior, but there was never a moment of warmth between he & his wife, even when they established their characters. It seemed like it was a mutually loveless marriage where they both disliked each other and divorce was looming.

reply

Men almost always want something "different." Even if their wife was hot. I once heard someone ask why Hugh Grant cheated on Elizabeth Hurley. With that cheap nasty prostitute, no less. The person answered, "say you have Peach Melba for dessert. It is delicious. It is unique. It is high class. But anyone could get bored eating peach Melba night after night. Sometimes you want chocolate cake, or even something like a Twinkie." I think that sums up why so many men cheat.

reply

Hang it up. More men then women WANT to cheat but far more women then men cheat....very simple. Men canĀ“t choose to have sex anytime they want, they fantasize like hell but women choose the male, not the other way around. Sure, women are more discrete but also as a byproduct, more deceptive and false. Somewhat generally speaking, based on 350 interviews I conducted...and the way of the world.
